Bottled Water and Manufactured Demand

A great video on the true story of bottled water and what is costs:

The Story of Bottled Water

I proudly use my Nalgene plastic bottle when I need to carry water with me.

On a side note, the issue of manufactured demand is an essential part of capitalism.  The need for ever increasing profits is not something that is specific to the beverage industry, but an inherent part of capitalism itself.  In order to do this businesses need to sell increasing amounts of stuff and this requires that demand increase regularly.  This is a core purpose of advertising, to convince us that we need things that we do not.  Pay attention to the commercials the next time you watch television and note how many of them say or imply that there is something wrong with you that only their product can fix.   I guarantee that the majority of the product ads will fall into this category.
